A World Without OrphansWWOPoster

What??? “Orphanages create orphans.” – it was a quote from missionary Steve Saint. I had visited orphanages overseas. I knew people who ran orphanages. Could it be that orphanages are not good? The more questions I asked, the more I realized that the church — while very well-meaning — is part of the problem. But the church is also part of the solution. There is a small group rumbling about the changes we need to think about — to think about children who belong in families. Can we rethink the way we care for vulnerable children? There are no orphans in this documentary, no children wistfully looking at the camera. It is a conversation, a discussion by people on the front lines of orphan care. It is meant to encourage the church to dialogue about its role in the pursuit of a world without orphans.

About the authors
Andrea Gisimundo
I am 39 years old, born in Lugano Switzerland, son of Mario and Santa. I have a degree in communication sciences, I love beautiful stories, those stories where you can enter in deep emotions. I
love when a story can make weep e laugh, my inspiration sources are Charlie Chaplin and Roberto Benigni. I love my family, above all my beautiful nephews who everyday enrich my life with love.

Alfredo Nicoli
I am 36 years old, I was born in Como and i live in a very little but beautiful town called Lanzo d’Intelvi, Italy. My job has been baker for longtime but I have always had many passions, above all acting and photography. I sold my bakery some months ago and now I am looking for new challenges. My dream is to work in cinema industries.
Dreaming is free and I will try to do all my best in order to realize my purposes.

Enea Fonti
I was born 36 years ago in a beautiful town in the south of Switzerland, in the Italian speaking region of Ticino. One thing I remember from my childhood years, is that I was probably the only kid in kindergarten who knew who Charlie Chaplin was. I became so fascinated with Chaplin’s little Tramp, that I constantly tried to imitate him and act like him (very very badly, I admit) in public spaces, much
to my parents’ embarassment…When I started making short movies of my own, I always kept an eye on the masters of the past – Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Buster Keaton, The Three Stooges, but also on French directors like Jacques Tati – to draw as much inspiration as possibile. I have always considered comedy and humour to be a key component of my life.Working on “Red Currant” as editor gave me a well appreciated opportunity to be involved with a new kind (for me) of storytelling.

About the author:
Joel ‘Kachi Benson found an old camcorder sometime around 2009…the exact date is somewhat vague…in fact it may have been before 2009. He doesn’t seem very sure.
Anyway, when he found this camcorder he decided to “make stuff” with it, and his first project was a music video for a group of teens who had formed a boy band in church. The music video did not become a hit, but that first project ignited a passion that would make him drop everything else (he wasn’t doing anything much at the time anyway) and pursue filmmaking.
Over the years, as he strove to improve his craft, Joel found himself increasingly drawn towards documentaries. He felt more connected to projects that dealt with real issues, real stories, and real people.
