The Two Gamers

The Two Gamers - poster

Best friends since childhood, Guy and Dude are thick as thieves. They’re also gamers to the core. But today is unlike any other day. Today it’s every man for himself because after months of waiting “IT” is finally here and only 50 pre-release copies are available.
What is “IT” you ask? It is in fact the hottest action RPG to hit the gaming world to date, “Knights Of Light-Doomsday”, and it’s first come first serve!
Their mission, should they choose to accept it, will be to become one of the first 50 people to own and beat this epic game. However, for one of them, it turns out to be more of a challenge than he expected or prepared for.
This comical adventure compares two close friends on a mission, but with very different ways of doing things resulting in two different outcomes. Through struggles, laughs, and even a little romance, find out if these two make this mission possible.

Powerful quote from the film:
“I Warned your man, sometimes you just don’t get second chances in life.”

DIRECTORS STATEMENT:
Although not a religious film, the plot of “The Two Gamers” is based from a challenge to produce a contemporary version Sermon Illustration from the Parable of The Ten Virgins as told by Jesus in the Bible. (Matthew 25:1-13, also called the parable of The Wise and Foolish Virgins) The original project was targeted to be a 5 minute long “sermon illustration” video that was intended for the Christian market. Therefore, the total budget at-hand at the beginning was a mere $89! from the then Executive Producers of the Northern California Filmmakers Coalition. However, despite the budget (or lack there of) the entire project took a life of it’s own. In the end, it was ultimately made possible by talented film-making industry professionals from the Sacramento community that VOLUNTEERED their time and money from development, through production, to post.
“The Two Gamers” is truly in every sense, a Community, Indie, Short.

Struggling to survive and overcome violence and poverty is a common image seen in movies and music about those who live in Compton. For West Coast rapper, Cuicide, it’s all just a part of his life. He’s dealt with hardships from the moment he was born, from having been abandoned by his parents at only eighteen months old to having to make it through foster homes and more upheavals. With no place to truly call home, he took to the streets and their offers of gang banging, robbing and hustling, but even that failed to calm him and eventually lead to an attempt at taking his own life at the young age of 22 years old. He thankfully lived through that and woke up out of a coma with a renewed sense of determination to make it.

About the author
“A talented young filmmaker with features in his future” (Alex Kendrick, Actor/Director – Courageous, Fireproof), Nathan “Nato” Jacobson is an actor, filmmaker, and founder of The Roundtable, a team of young filmmakers who have a vision and passion to inspire people. Amidst much skepticism from those around him, Jacobson made his directorial debut in 2014 with “Wanted”, a major short film project about adoption and foster care that required well over 200 people to make a reality. Despite the pessimism of many a filmmaker who doubted the end result of such a rookie undertaking, Jacobson submitted the film to festivals, and in no time at all was finding success, especially in the family and faith-based environments. Wanted has now been selected by numerous festivals, and has won the award for Best Short Film at both the Christian Worldview Film Festival and the Pan Pacific Film Festival, two of the largest faith-based festivals in the U.S. The film is still on its festival run, but in the meantime, The Roundtable is already working to develop their next project, once again looking for how they can best inspire those who will watch it.

Driven by the Spirit. Tempted by Satan.

Synopsis:
A short film illustrating Christ’s forty days in the wilderness where, prior to beginning His earthly ministry, He was tempted by Satan… yet without sin.
Whereas some dialogue was added to further the narrative– every bit of Christ’s dialogue was carefully chosen and adapted from other parts of scripture with much prayer and study.
The true account can be found in fourth chapter of the book of Matthew.

Powerful Line:
“Get behind me, Satan.” ~Christ

Director’s Statement:
It was during my early years growing up in Louisiana with a bucket full of action figures that I discovered my love for storytelling. After graduating from high school in Texas, I swore in for a five year stint in the United States Marine Corps— a commitment that eventually took me to Iraq. It was there that I dove into scripture like never before, and it was there that I decided I wanted those stories— our history— to come to the screen like never before.

The Lord has blessed me beyond measure every step of the way and has given me the greatest wife, helpmate and friend, who has sacrificed and supported me through all my years of the Marine Corps, film school and career ups and downs.

My blessings are undeserved— any success is a full testament of His grace.

HUDSON SUNSET - Poster

Marcus Naylor`s slow waltz with mourning the death of his son`s mother, begins with the simplicity of the day. One of his main characters begins by taking in the vast!skyline of New York City at sunrise. As his son`s mother walks their son to school, he begins his morning exercise routine. The day is turned on its head when the mother is killed after dropping their son off to school. “Hudson Sunset in the After. While”was shot in the heart of New York City`s “Hells Kitchen”, The Hudson River, and the iconic Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. These contrasting elements support the dance of father and son as they bond through the pain of the sudden death of their loved one. Words at times escapes the father in helping the son cope with grief. And the son`s reactions at first seem mature for his age. But as we soon see in the film,it is the unspoken between the father and son that gives them the strength they need as the sun sets on their loss love, and their !new life begins after death.

The Gospel of the Fool

Short synopsis
It is Passover.
Nationalist conspirators are plotting the overthrow of the ruling elite.
One of them is about to change the course of history.
The Gospels left Judas’ motives uncertain, but history has not been kind to the infamous Apostle. THIRTY is a unique short film based on the play Guerrilla by John Cargill Thompson, which retells the story of Christ’s betrayal from the perspective of Judas during the moments immediately following the Last Supper.
The events of that fateful night have been transported to somewhere in the late 20th Century. This shocking and controversial reinterpretation of events feasibly casts Judas in a completely new light, and challenges our preconceptions of the ultimate traitor.

About the author
A couple of years ago, my friend John Kay Steel handed me a script for a monologue written by the late Scottish playwright John Cargill Thompson. I read the script and was immediately gripped by the intensity of the writing and the originality of its approach to such an important historical event.
John had performed the monologue many times on stage and I asked him to come over and read it for me in my kitchen. After just a few minutes, I noticed that the hairs on my arms were standing straight, and I knew instantly that I had a duty to try to bring this remarkable text to the screen.
In the theatrical version, the audience effectively plays the role of Judas’ fellow national conspirators. Our first challenge with the film was therefore to create a reaction mechanism that would act as a substitute for the audience. To this end, we created five other characters based on archetypes. Through their interactions with Judas, we hoped to emulate the tension generated between actor and audience in the theatre.
Monologues do not transfer easily to the screen, so our next challenge was to keep the audience engaged for the duration of the film. As well as adapting the script to give voices to some of the other characters, we placed great emphasis on intricate set design and dramatic lighting. We also wrote extensive backstories for all the supporting characters, even though they share just a handful of lines between them. Our intention was to add depth and complexity to Judas’ relationships in order to intrigue
and hold the intention of the audience.
Importantly, we decided to bring the story forward to a more contemporary but unspecified point in time. In doing so, I hope that the film’s message will resonate vividly with a society more accustomed to suicide bombers than swords and tabards.
